It’s the August bank holiday 2014, the weather is just perfect and everyone in Ireland – it seems – is going somewhere! A line from Christy Moore’s famous ‘Lisdoonvarna’ springs to mind…
“We go there and they come here…”
People are sampling sections of the Wild Atlantic Way. People are breaking for the border. People are meeting friends and heading off to Dingle, Derry, Dublin and everywhere in between! A few of my closest friends are off to a music festival. I’ve been invited, but Wild Atlantic Day tours come first and we’ve got bookings!
At last, after a thoroughly enjoyable sunny Saturday back by the coast with a couple from Dublin, I’m free! And I’m Mitchelstown bound. The Indiependence festival, where music, fun, friends (old & new) a few beers and a campervan await. It’s exciting times and the weekend opens up before me like a broad horizon…so I call one of the lads on the way down.
“Hold on! We’re staying in the WHAT??”
“The Bosco Bus! It’s unreal!”
I’d be lying if I said I was hopeful of finding anything even remotely approaching luxury or comfort in this “Bosco Bus” sharing with 3 other grown men on the hottest weekend of the year…
How wrong I was…

Suitably equipped with everything a home on the road could offer; hot shower, clean toilet, full working kitchen, comfortable dining area and easy to prepare bedding – we were the envy of many other campervans on the site at Indiependence! Not only that, but help was never more than a phone call away, as Finnian (one half of the business partnership) was always ready to offer advice.
Having spoken to Finnian and Tommie (owners & operators of Craicncampers) numerous times since, we are confident we can build an attractive package for groups seeking adventure and comfort as they travel along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Imagine taking the campervan from Donegal, through Sligo and Mayo, taking in Bundoran for surfing, Strandhill for SUP boarding, Downpatrick Head for sightseeing and using the campervan to join all the dots in between. Bed, transport, equipment storage and a great sound system all provided! Keep moving south through Louisburgh, Delphi and onto the charming and ever-entertaining Galway City, where music and craic await! Add to that the best one day tour on the west coast; The Wild Atlantic Day with West Coast Cycle Tours taking you through Clare’s rugged and unspoiled scenery, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a roadtrip! Watch this space…
When asked to contribute to this blog, Finnian had this to say:
